Meadowcroft Rockshelter is near Avella in Jefferson Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The rock shelter is located only 27 miles from our beautiful city of Pittsburgh and It is the oldest known Location inhabited by human beings in North America. The rock shelter sits in the Allegheny Plateau just North West of The Appalachian Basin. The site was used Pre-Revolutionary war by Native American Indians until it was abandoned and was not discovered until modern times in 1955 when the initial artifacts were discovered by a man named Albert Miller. Using radioactive dating the site is believed to be 16,000 to 1900 years old. If the dates are correct this is really exciting.
